Five Five Fabulous

“The best thing about running a fashion and lifestyle blog is that most aspects of our social lives get included as content, so that includes travel”, says Five Five Fabulous sisters and bloggers Reem and Natalya Kanj. What first started as a regular blog set up in 2009 by Reem, quickly transformed into an online destination for devotees of travel, fashion and food. Once sister Natalya jumped on board in 2012, the pair took the concept one step further and decided to switch content from news to their own personal experiences.

Now almost four years down the line, the much-loved bloggers are deemed international successes. The sisters split their time travelling to and from Dubai, where they are based, while featuring in top UAE publications, discovering hidden gems when travelling, and staging large-scale collaborations – including their most recent with Louis Vuitton.

In a special feature for SUITCASE, Reem and Natalya share their fabulous tips and recommendations for one of the most visited countries right now, the UAE.

To Stay

Dubai has so many amazing hotels. It’s really hard for us to pick only two. We love this perfect boutique hotel located downtown, named the Vida Hotel, which is only a two minute walk away from The Dubai Mall.

If you prefer a more peaceful hotel, the One&Only on The Palm is definitely your go-to spot. It’s perfect for a relaxing vacation.

When we visit Abu Dhabi, we love to stay at the Yas Hotel on Yas Island. It has a great vibe with fabulous bars and restaurants.

To Eat

La Serre in Dubai is amazing for breakfast; we absolutely love it there!

Vida Hotel serves a picnic brunch every Friday – it has a really chilled vibe. You literally pick a basket and fill it with a selection of your favourite foods. We actually just finished a feature on this for our blog, that’s how good it is.

For dinner, nothing beats Zuma. The menu has everything you could want and need if you’re into Japanese food, and the atmosphere is just fabulous. No matter what day of the week you decide to pop down, it’s always packed so you’re very likely to bump into at least one person you know!

To Visit

We love taking time to visit the Al Qasr hotel, in Madinat Jumeirah, for afternoon tea. For shopping, we really love this hidden gem in Sunset Mall called Socialista Boutique – they carry brands like Opening Ceremony and Three Floor, which you’ll notice are quite hard to find in the region. We love spending time at the Jetty Lounge to wind down; it’s on the beach and is the perfect setting for when you want to watch the sunset.

Abu Dhabi is really fun during the F1 weekend – it’s definitely an experience we recommend. The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the biggest Mosque in the UAE and is stunning, so it’s definitely worth visiting there too. The Palace Hotel is another must-see, the architecture is impeccable and you’ll always find something to do there.

When we fancy shopping the more international brands, we prefer visiting the Mall of the Emirates, it’s a lot smaller than The Dubai Mall but it has everything. The Galleria, in Abu Dhabi, is another favourite shopping destination of ours.

We love exploring the Souks in old Dubai too; it’s perfect when you want to find delicate jewellery. And when we’re in Abu Dhabi, we love venturing out to the Corniche, even if it’s just for a bike ride.

Bastakiya in old Dubai, the most historic district, is the hidden gem of the city. You really sense and feel the culture when you’re there. The saltwater creek, only a five-minute walk away, is definitely a must-visit too.

We both agree that we can’t live without the following: lip balm (Yu-Be Cream or Elizabeth Arden), hand cream (L’Occitane or Nivea), a pair of fuzzy socks, headphones, and of course, a book just in case you’re needing to zone out during a layover or an extra long flight – a movie doesn’t always cut it!
