Fyodor Golan

With design resumes that read McQueen and Miyake, it is no surprise that the masterminds behind Fyodor Golan have developed a brand that is radically redefining modern fashion. Latvian Fyodor Podgorny and Israeli Golan Frydman, the design duo behind the brand, model their creations on the juxtaposition of high fashion and street influence. In their first collections together, you can easily make out the influence of McQueen’s tragically dark and romantic aesthetic. More recently, however, in the brands first ever pre-collection, the two men searched far and wide to invent their own entirely unique aesthetic.

Fyodor Golan’s pre-SS16 collection, I Know What You Did Last Summer, is an experimentation of the two designer’s mixed skills and interests. Podgorny and Frydman utilise a variety of techniques such as laser cutting, hand embroidery and digital printing in the development of their pieces.

Similarly to some of their previous collections, they worked this season to generate graphic prints, some of which were inspired by their travels to Beijing and Shanghai. In particular they focused on the photographs they took from a pet market in Shanghai, which would ultimately lead to the goldfish print that swims throughout the collection. Fyodor and Golan chose to present their collection without a catwalk show, instead releasing an image campaign for their pieces.

The geometric sportswear-inspired shapes and drapes of each garment are a cool contradiction to the addition of neon tulle and miscellaneous frill. The designers continue to work in fluid opposition as they explore the contrasts of fashion; frequently referencing their ethos as Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman actively embrace their inner child and project that energy into their collections, ultimately creating a brand that speaks directly to that of the modern woman.
