shopbop global style

Parisian designer Michaela Buerger has built up a global fanbase with her fun and offbeat knitwear, created using a combination of hand-knitting techniques and contemporary methods. So it’s no surprise that online womenswear store Shopbop has tapped into Buerger for their latest designer collaboration. The capsule collection, released just in time for the holiday season, is a celebration of different cultures, with pieces inspired by destinations including Tokyo, Ibiza, Australia, Seoul, London, China, Italy, New York and Paris. While creating the collection, Buerger says she was most surprised by the variation in knitting traditions between different cultures: “The funniest fact is that almost every country has a different manner to hold the needles! There is a huge difference between a woman in China knitting and a woman in France or Austria. But what I really think is that knitting is very cool and connects people.”

Playing with the clichés and tourist tropes of each place, Buerger has designed bold and quirky patches, which are then appliquéd onto her signature luxury loungewear. The result is a range of charming and witty sweaters, tops and pyjamas, perfect for cosying up in front of the fire, or keeping you warm en route to your winter holiday. If you are looking for a fun gift for a fashionable friend, or simply an alternative to your usual outlandish christmas jumper, then look no further…
