True spring weather has arrived across the Northern Hemisphere. It’s warm enough to peel our pasty legs out from a pair of tights and stick them into little ankle socks via a white sneaker. It’s warm enough to truly enjoy a drink outside, everything tinted golden through the lenses of our dusted-off sunnies. And it’s warm enough to wear those pastels you’ve been eyeing all winter.
Pastels. If Miuccia says so, it goes (queue Prada S/S16). You can try to avoid them if you’re not a fan, but this season it will be hard to deny their draw. With every SS15 collection came a pastel surprise. Take Altuzarra’s pastel pink pencil skirt suit. Or the Dries Van Noten collection – where bold colours and patterns were offset by rounder colours. Christian Dior radiated with whites and pastel prints on symmetrical coats and oversized skirts.
The trending colours of the season seem to represent our current mood. If anything the resurgence of pastels confirms the desire for a more subdued approach to dressing this season – an effortless grace that is quietly cool and more romantic than the tropical hues we tend to see in summer.
