NAME: Aire Ancient Baths
LOCATION: TriBeCa, New York Located in a former textile factory in downtown New York, this sprawling 16,000 square foot space houses baths of varying temperatures including an ice pool, jet pool, salt pool and hot pool. Exposed brick, wood-beam ceilings, columns and flickering candlelight create a seductive ambience reminiscent of the Ancient Greek and Roman bathhouses to which Aire pays tribute.
TOP TREATMENT YOU SAMPLED: Guests can spend up to two hours enjoying the different pools, as well as the glass-enclosed steam room and the hot-stone relaxation area where refreshments are served. During this time slot you can pre-book a private massage in one of the rooms off the main space. We enjoyed an express 15-minute massage. Our therapists addressed specific pain-points and created custom treatments accordingly.
AVERAGE PRICE FOR A MASSAGE: A thermal bath experience and 15-minute massage costs $116, and prices go up as you extend the length of the treatment. Guests can go all out with a 60-minute four-handed massage at $329 or, for complete indulgence, the Red Wine Ritual, which involves soaking in a private tub of Spanish-imported red wine (yes, seriously) and a four-handed massage for a grand total of $574. For a more active experience, you can also book the Aire Yoga Ritual, which involves a 60-minute yoga class, 30-minute massage and thermal bath time for $159.
ANY EXTRAS? Sweet mint tea is offered in both the reception and the relaxation area, while changing rooms are kitted out with L’Occitane toiletries, make-up remover, hair straighteners and blow dryers. Terrycloth robes and slippers are also provided.
FUN FACT: The Ancient Greeks and Romans considered bathing a public, convivial activity and would invite guests to enjoy their formal baths before banquets. The Aire Ancient Baths have incorporated this concept into their experience – while the atmosphere is calm and serene, most guests come with their significant other or a group of friends to enjoy the experience together.
DIRECTORY / HOW DO I BOOK? Through their website, ancientbathsny.com. The Aire Ancient Baths are part of Grupo Aire, which operates four other luxury baths in Barcelona, Seville, Almeria and Vallromanes.
