TO Stay
Ace Hotel
Overall Impression
While Ace Hotel is by no means a quirky find and Shoreditch High Street is no longer at the cutting edge of places to be, The Ace chain remains a firm favourite for creatives around the world. That’s because you know when you stay at an Ace hotel the rooms will be stylish and practical and the service will be good but most importantly you’ll be at the centre of action – you’ll always be just upstairs from a happening bar, restaurant and coffee shop. The Ace Hotel London Shoreditch is no different with Hoi Polloi restaurant, Square Mile Coffee, Lovage juice bar, the lobby bar and workspace and the basement club Miranda. You literally have no excuse to leave the property.
Rooms
There are seven tiers of rooms at the Ace from a standard to a suite. Standard rooms are not the smallest we have seen (we’re looking at you New York) but if we had a more forgiving budget we’d opt for the deluxe double on a high floor. Rooms from £169.
Breakfast
Open from 7 to 12AM, Hoi Polloi is The Ace’s modern brasserie serving up all the regulars – full English, eggs Floréntine and buttermilk pancakes – and dishes with a bit more flair like crab omelettes and steak and green tomatoes.
Lunch and Dinner?
Back to Hoi Polloi for lunch and dinner. Think dishes like roast pork belly, braised lentils and black cabbage and battered hake with salt and vinegar chips. The burger is a must anytime of the day. There is also a brunch menu and an afternoon tea menu with a selection of mini-sandwiches.
Is there a Bar?
Yes there’s a lobby bar always overflowing with people and a DJ spinning upbeat tunes. There’s also the Miranda club downstairs.

Many will tell you Shoreditch is over – come Friday nights and you will find bankers, teens and bachelorettes blowing off steam – but it’s still a great central location close to some of the best restaurants, bars and galleries in the city.
