TO Stay
It’s a well known fact that the Greenwich Hotel is the place to stay for celebrities passing through the Big Apple. Unsurprising, of course, when Robert De Niro is the owner. On any given evening, it’s not uncommon to see the paparazzi loitering outside the hotel’s inconspicuous entryway, waiting to catch a glimpse of an Oscar winner or world-famous director. That said, the TriBeCa hotel is a far cry from your typical see-and-be-seen establishment. Defined by its laidback elegance, first-rate service and phenomenal spa, the Greenwich offers plenty of reasons to stay that go far beyond star-spotting. We’ll warn you that for all these reasons, staying at The Greenwich is expensive.
Each of the 88 rooms is uniquely decorated, with Tibetan silk rugs, English leather sofas and bathrooms decked out with either Italian Carrara marble or Moroccan tile. Rooms start at £440.
Breakfast is not included, but the hotel’s adjoining restaurant, Locanda Verde, is without doubt one of the finest places to eat in the city. Enjoy an Italian brunch in the quiet courtyard with your complimentary morning papers.
Again, Locanda is unbeatable. We’d eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner if we could. Note that the hotel can arrange for Mr Carmellini (the chef) to prepare a private in-room dinner for two...
Yes, sit down and unwind with an evening cocktail in the spectacularly furnished drawing room – complete with a working fireplace and plush furniture.
