How do I get involved?
“The humanitarian crisis that is happening in Syria is completely devastating, and it’s easy to feel totally helpless. Being a little part of a big movement, and encouraging people to mobilise – not just locally but globally – through the universal act of cooking and eating means that in some small way I can try to help.” – Rosie Birkett, #CookForSyria Recipe Book Contributor
#CookForSyria has made it easy to get involved; get creative and think big, but there’s no pressure. Whether you’re hosting a supper club, running a charity bake, or simply trying a new recipe and sharing it with family, you’re contributing to the cause. The idea is to spread awareness, raise money, and bring people together through the power of food. All it takes is friends, food, and a hashtag.
Host a Supper Club
Calling on all best-friends, colleagues, and classmates! Host your own supper club; have a dinner, a brunch, a lunch, you name it. Just get cooking and raise funds via your own JustGiving page and you’re well on your way to a successful evening. Need some tips? Jackson & Levine offer their advice on how to be the perfect host here.
Buy the Recipe Book
With 100 recipes, vibrant photographs, artwork, and design (all donated), 100% of profits will be donated directly to supporting UNICEF’s humanitarian work in effort to aid children affected by the crisis in Syria. The book is a beautiful addition to anyone’s kitchen shelf; use it to try a new recipe at your next book club meeting or shake up your weekly dinners with a Syrian-inspired dish.
Participate in your restaurant or café
Do you own a restaurant, bakery, café, eatery, etc? You can join the campaign by putting a Syrian inspired twist on one of your signature dishes and donate £2 from each dish sold. Get creative, and get cooking!
Nothing brings people together quicker than the smell of fresh cakes and pastries. Get together with your friends, colleagues, and classmates to bake some cakes and raise some money, then donate the proceeds via the #CookForSyria JustGiving page. Pics or it didn’t happen!
Spread the word
Snap a pic of your home-cooked za’atar flatbreads, or take a group shot of your Uni’s bake sale. Just be sure to include the hashtag, spread the word, and encourage others to get involved. Let’s get #CookForSyria trending!
