ISHKAR Situn Earrings
These gold-plated earrings set with semi-precious spinel gemstones from Afghanistan will add a touch of elegance to your everyday outfit.
Inspired by the bullet-strewn hollows left after the Taliban destroyed the Buddhas of Bamiyan in 2001 - two monumental statues dating back to the 6th century - British jewellery designer Marks designed these earrings which are made by craftsmen in Kabul. By filling the blast marks with Afghanistan's precious stones, her collection symbolises the country's defiant beauty and resilience.
ISHKAR wants to ensure that craftsmanship in war-torn countries not only survives but thrives. Founders Edmund Le Brun and Flore de Taisne create economic opportunities for local artisans, support NGOs and go beyond the headlines to challenge perceptions and keep ancestral skills alive.
