Here in New York, women are gaining traction in the food world. More and more attention is turning towards the tireless females who are driving the food industry in a whole new direction, and challenging the male-centric culinary world. In the last decade the number of female chefs, food writers, restaurant owners and influential figures in the food industry has flourished. From executive chefs like Helen Rizzo (who won 2014’s Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef) and The Spotted Pig’s April Bloomfield, to female-lead food publications like Cherry Bombe and Brutal Magazine, women are dominating New York’s culinary realm now more than ever.
Here, we take a look at some of the leading faces of New York’s food scene. Over the last few weeks we have met, listened to and fallen slightly in love with these eight inspiring women who, along with their contemporaries, are currently giving the food industry a whole new face.
