Lindstrøm’s Oslo in 23 Questions

Mon, 11 May 2015

Hans-Peter Lindstrøm is a DJ and producer who was raised on country and western music in the outskirts of the Norwegian oil town Stavanger. He now lives in Oslo where he is creating contemporary disco music and running his label, Feedelity. Here he shares with SUITCASE what he loves about Oslo.

On a date I go to…

Maaemo. Best (most expensive) restaurant in town.

Favourite after-club meal spot… Frankly, I don’t have a clue. Haven’t been out clubbing for 10 years. Probably one of the shady spots in Torggata.

I always get takeout from…

Nam fah Thai in Kongens gate.

The best place to buy my mum a gift… Actually, she doesn’t want any gifts anymore. She refuses to accept them.

The thing I miss most about Oslo when I’m travelling is? The coffee at Wendelboe coffee shop! No doubt! The best coffee in the world. Actually, I don’t even drink coffee when I’m away travelling. I’d rather wait until I get back home.

I can’t travel without… Foam earplugs. Can’t sleep without them.

A spot that I hope no one finds out about in Oslo is…

Can’t think of any spots that I’d like to keep to myself. I’m up for sharing !

The best way to get around the city… By bike! Even though Oslo isn’t really made for bicycling, there’s no need to use a car or public transport. Wish the air was a bit cleaner here though. But usually no problem.

Neighbourhood to look out for… Malerhaugen and Vålerenga

The most unique aspect of the Oslo music scene… It’s small and easy to grasp. Can be both a curse and a blessing though.

People should go to Oslo…

For the coffee!

I produced music both solo and with Prins Thomas because…

I’ve been working with a lot of people over the years. Going solo is nice, but in order to get some variation it’s great to work with other people as well.

The best thing about Oslo in the winter? It’s only a 20-minute drive to the mountains for downhill skiing.

And in the summer… We’re less than 10 minutes away from the best swimming spot in downtown Oslo – Tjuvholmen.

When on a budget, this restaurant always satisfies…

Nam Fah Thai in Kongens gate is always good

A weekend in Oslo should always include… A visit to Wendelboe coffee for a double espresso-shot.

When my friends are in town, the first stop is… Our place, I guess.

I always get my coffee from… Wendelboe coffee!

Weekend getaway in Norway… Hurum.

Favourite Norwegian food… Fårikål

Best place to find it… I always make it at home.

First record I ever bought…

Alphaville – Forever Young

What’s next for me… Lots of travelling. New York, Mexico City, Barcelona, Paris, London … summer festivals … and a long vacation at our country house in Hurum!
