Dorado Café

A 2018 newcomer to the Jewish Quarter, this speciality café charms with a chic but casual atmosphere created by Hungarian-Spanish owners, Emese and Mario. They manage to spare a kind word to each customer while preparing espresso-based coffees made of light-roasted Ethiopian and Colombian beans. The spacious interior with artfully paint-chipped plaster walls includes plenty of green plants and a long, wooden communal table. In the warmer months, go for the cold brews.

360 Bar

Budapest is finally making good use of its rooftops. 360 Bar is the go-to roof-deck bar for the stylish Budapest crowd, perching atop the imperial Andrássy Avenue and offering panoramic vistas. The best nights are Friday to Sunday when a DJ spins tracks late into the night. The fun goes on year-round; in the colder months they set up cosy, igloo-shaped heated structures that will keep you warm along with stiff cocktails.

Kisüzem

A melting pot of local bohemians and international college students, Kisüzem bar has become a mainstay on Budapest’s boisterous nightlife scene. In addition to everyday Hungarian beer, wine and distilled spirits, they carry an extensive array of imported top-shelf rums. Expect a raucous atmosphere as the night unfolds and observe the ever-changing local artworks hanging on the exposed-brick walls.

Kiosk

Boasting panoramic views of the Gellért Hill and the Danube River, Kiosk is one of the best places in town to pop in for a cocktail or a glass of wine. The industrial-chic interior of the pre-war building features lots of green and dramatically high ceilings. If you’re staying for food, don’t miss the mákosguba dessert, a poppy seed-based local specialty. In the warmer months, the activity shifts to the expansive, outdoor lawn.

Kollázs

For a memorable experience, pop in for a highball to Kollázs, the restaurant and bar of the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace. With soft jazz playing in the background, the exquisite interior complete with maroon leather bar stools, marble, dark wood and brass finishes, will transport you back to the 1920s art-deco era. A bit of theatrics accompanies the preparation of the cocktails – go for their take on the classic vieux carré.
