This trendy and upmarket tapas restaurant (part of Casa La Tortugas) perhaps serves as one of the island’s strongest indicators that Holbox is taking cues from Tulum. The alfresco restaurant attracts a stylish, discerning crowd, and also features a small designer boutique attached – Le Bazaar. The decor is just as inspiring, set in a beautiful garden replete with locally hand-crafted tables, chairs, wicker pendants and Buddha statues – all very zen. Meanwhile, food is a combination of Spanish, Middle Eastern and Mexican cuisines, with delicious sharing bites offered such as fish croquettes, falafel and lamb. A killer cocktail menu is full of innovative must-try drinks such as the Earl Grey-infused negroni.

If you’re craving stone-baked pizza, this is no doubt the island’s best spot. Using fresh, local ingredients and cooked in a huge wood-fired oven just a 30-second walk from the beach, it’s a good idea to order one and head to the beachfront with a couple beers to watch the sunset. We’d recommend the shrimp or lobster pizza – nowhere is the seafood fresher than Isla Holbox.
