Skylight Books

Inside the main store you’ll find writer events, fiction and non-fiction titles, and not to mention a resident cat and an actual tree living inside. One door down is the art annex filled with graphic novels, plays and art books. Skylight has been our independent bookstore for over 20 years and remains one of the centerpieces of Vermont Avenue. It has its own book club and hosts events including literary trivia on Independent Bookstore Day.

High End: Barneys Beverly Hills Bud Boutique

Since California legalised recreational marijuana use on 1 January 2018, there’s been a steady rise in sleek dispensaries opening up aimed at a higher-end market than the typical Venice Beach stoners. If it’s a boujee bud-hit you’re after, then head to Barneys in Beverly Hills new bud boutique. Dubbed the High End, the boutique has collaborated with the “Hermès of cannabis” Bebeo, whose rose gold vape pens and CBD-infused sheet masks have infiltrated Hollywood’s A-list.

Nike by Melrose

The sneaker-head equivalent of Cher Horowitz’s Clueless wardrobe bridges the gap between brick-and-mortar retail and digital consumerism. Nike’s first data-driven store is like stepping into the Nike app, as it allows customers to book Express Sessions – similar to Apple’s Genius Bar appointments – to get styling or fit advice, reserve in-store products to smart lockers that can be accessed with a swipe of a phone barcode or purchase trainers in a drive-through-like service that sees them pick up their new Cortez’s curbside.

Casa Perfect

Living up to its namesake, this appointment-only gallery-cum-furniture-store is an eclectic mix of exclusively commissioned pieces and contemporary products all under one roof. Like many Hollywood residences, the location is kept secret ensuring a private shopping experience. Cacti, wood-paneled walls and mint-green suede sun loungers are about the only glimpse of Casa Perfect you’ll get, if you trawl their social media for interior inspo.

Broome Street General Store

Part coffee shop, part boutique, Broome Street offers a fine selection of coffee, tea, and pastries made daily. The store is expertly curated to feature items for the home, apparel and beauty for men, women, and children, and a wide range of gifts. On the shelves you’ll find locally sourced jams, handmade pottery sets, cult beauty, the cutest cards for all occasions, and so much more. After browsing, enjoy your treats outside in the courtyard.

Nicknamed the “Apple Store” for medicinal marijuana, stepping into this joint in West Hollywood’s gaybourhood is a far cry from its European coffee shop neighbours. More slick than seedy, think Beverly Hills soccer mums as opposed to stag and hen dos. Budtenders can give you both a scientific and taste overview with everything from calming CBD oil to gummy bear edibles on offer.

Raunchy, erotic and a tiny bit tacky sums up this sex shop to the stars. Educating the population of Los Angeles with a revolving calendar of sex-ed events that are less giggling banana demonstrations and more in-depth workshops on everything from burlesque to blowjobs. Offering more than just a treasure trove of things naughty and nice, it highlights the progressive, community spirit that WeHo is renowned for.

Restoration Hardware: The Gallery

WeHo’s design district is one of the area’s biggest attractions. Aside from the street murals and THAT pink wall, it’s filled with bespoke furniture shops and flagship interior design stores serving everyone from J-Lo to Joan Collins. Here, simplicity is sophistication with the relationship between retail space and home blurring as you browse enviable lounge and kitchen sets before retreating to the roof and sinking into a couch that, alas, you can’t quite afford.

Lou Wine Shop

The selections in this east-side boutique are curated to feature natural and unusual wines divided into quirky categories such as “Spaghetti” and “Netflix & Chill.” Weekend tastings are hand-selected by Lou and often feature three wines based on a theme: “Volcanic Italian Wines,” “Orange Wine,” or “Chilled Reds to Put in Your Mouth”. While you can’t go wrong with anything in the store, Lou and his staff are always on hand to find something perfect for your occasion and budget.
