Walking Tour

Sign up to a walking tour with Kristy of Cartagena Connections. The bubbly Australian moved to Cartagena in 2012 and knows all the ins and outs of the city, as well as most of the locals. With an inexhaustible knowledge of Cartagena’s history, where to find the best street food, and a story for every street, you’ll soak up the city in no time – and she may even teach you some salsa steps to boot.

Nohra Haime Galeria

Check out the local talent at the Cartagena branch of the well known Nohra Haime Gallery in New York. Ruby Rumié is the gallery’s trump card; the Colombian artist paints, sculpts and photographs, focusing on injustice and psychology, drawing most of her inspiration from Getsemaní.

Trip to the islands

For a breezy break from the city’s stifling heat, head to Coralina Island in the Islas del Rosario, where you can sip coconut cocktails on the private island or snorkel in the brilliantly green sea. More secluded and less well known than Tierra de Bomba and the other islands in the archipelago, a VIP day trip costs a mere £50 and includes a private boat ride, a deliciously fresh lunch and snorkelling gear. Alternatively, make tracks to the bird sanctuary on Isla Baru for a day spent spotting flamingoes stalking through the trees.
