Susan Bijl

Instantly recognisable by its distinctive, flash design, you’re bound to see people carrying Susan Bijl’s signature shopping tote everywhere you go. Made from durable, lightweight fabric, these bicolour totes are a sustainable alternative to plastic bags and make for great souvenirs. They can be bought all around town, but the brand’s flagship store stocks the biggest collection – including wallets, backpacks and pouches in the same style.

With a keen eye for quirky fashion, Dearhunter’s owners are experts at selecting unique pre-loved pieces. Paw through racks of shirts, dresses and sweaters and discover gems like vintage Burberry coats, sequinned jackets and boldly printed shirts from Africa. Best of all, prices are very reasonable.

Located under a railway viaduct, Pantoufle’s bright, all-white showroom space is a homage to artisanal homewares from around the globe. Owner Esther Blankers has travelled the world to select expertly crafted items such as the finest linen from France, handmade knives from Spain and bigger furniture pieces like blonde oakwood tables and benches from central Japan. It’s a feast for the eyes – but not so for your wallet. Do note that the shop only opens on Fridays and Saturdays. Alternatively, call ahead to make an appointment.

This pastel-coloured shop carries a collection of design-forward home accessories and jewellery sourced from Turkey to Sweden. The common denominator between all wares is that they’re produced locally and in small batches. Evernow doubles as a design studio, with many of the in-house designs ending up in the store.
