Barcelona Romance

Together with the leading luxury watch brand Rolex, SUITCASE has curated guides to some of the world’s most timeless cities. To receive your own bespoke itinerary, just tell us where and when you’re travelling as well as what sparks your interest. We’ll do the rest.

Even the most seasoned travellers need a plan. Especially when you’re trying to impress your loved one. Here’s how Rolex and SUITCASE think you should spend a romantic day in Barcelona.

In the Morning...

Casa Bonay

Wake up at this sun-washed 1869 mansion in Eixample. It’s elegant and trendy with three restaurants, Satan’s coffee bar, and the best hotel bar in Barcelona (Libertine bar) all under one roof. It’s not classic romantic (if you want that stay at Hotel Mercer or Cotton House Hotel), but its cool factor will get you serious brownie points.

Caravelle

Many locals will argue this is the best brunch spot in Barcelona. Located in Raval and owned by two Australians, this bright, minimalist restaurant serves up home-toasted muesli with fresh berries and poached eggs with avocado and rocket pesto.

El Gotico

Take a walk around the neighbourhood of El Gótico to really appreciate the architecture of this once Roman village. Use the cathedral as your starting point and get lost in its narrow, winding streets, which open up into beautiful squares. Make sure to stop in Plaça Reial for a coffee.

In the Afternoon...

Parc Ciutadella

Have a picnic or spend the afternoon in Parc de la Ciutadella, a green oasis in the heart of the city. There’s a tropical greenhouse, a geological museum and a winter garden made from iron and glass. You can also rent a small boat and paddle in the lake. Swoon.

Els Pescadors

For a special lunch jump in a taxi to Els Pescadors, a traditional neighbourhood restaurant in a charming square in Poble Nou. The building is over 100 years old, and at weekends families pile in for some of the best seafood in the city.

Poblenou

Just a stone’s throw from Els Pescadors, this cemetery is a spectacular sight. The seven-storey high burial niches (typical of Spanish cemeteries) are covered in plastic flowers with old photos and letters. It is both tragic and beautiful – and nothing says ’til death do us part like a good graveyard.

In the Evening...

Cotton House Hotel

Stop for a sundowner at Cotton House Hotel terrace. Grandiose and elegant, this five-star hotel is housed in a 19th-century neoclassical building in Eixample. Its beautiful outdoor space is filled with rattan chairs and large palms that make for the perfect early evening setting for a cocktail.

Il Giardinetto

This is where you’ll find that old school Barcelona glamour of days gone by. Painted a deep green with palm-shaped mirrors and rattan chairs, locals come here for a long dinner with friends or lovers (the kitchen is open until 1AM) and to hear the piano player who serenades diners on most nights.

Boca Chica

A glamorous cocktail bar in Eixample, Boca Chica is one of the only bars in Barcelona where you’ll see stilettos. Sip artisan cocktails in an elegant, old-world setting with vintage photographs, Persian rugs and stag heads hanging on the walls.
