A night out in Lima just isn’t complete without a visit to Ayahuasca. Located in a huge mansion, Ayahuasca has several bars, each designed by a different architect and each with a different theme. Guests can enjoy strolling from room to room, sipping exotic cocktails and admiring the unique decor at each hangout, which includes psychedelic lighting, glowing coloured bottles and framed bras and knickers. This is undoubtedly Lima’s place to see and be seen – as reflected by the hordes of people. Be sure to try the pisco sours here.

It’s no surprise that one of Lima’s coolest areas, Barranco, is home to one of its hottest bars. Barra 55 somehow manages to be stylish but laid-back, modern yet retro. You can spend hours relaxing at its sleek bar, knocking back more pisco and soaking up the booze with endless tapas plates. With over 20 varieties of gin to choose from, it’s a G&T lover’s dream, but has many excellent craft beers too. The soft jazz music might lure you in at the start of the evening, but the funk, house and afro beats which thump out later will keep you there until the early hours.

This big, barn-like club is an old favourite in Lima and guarantees visitors a wild night to remember. Depending on the evening you go (each night is themed) you can expect to be entertained by resident DJs, local rock and funk bands or some of the best salsa in the city. Sargento Pimienta is probably best known for its ‘salsa Tuesdays’, which are perfect for first-time visitors to get a flavour of Peruvian culture. If you can’t salsa, don’t worry: it’s notoriously dark in there, so just put your best foot forward and give it a go.
