New York City is best experienced from a height (preferably with something strong and chilled in hand). As temperatures rise, so does our expectations. Here are some hyper-cool rooftop spots to flock to when the city is feeling anything but.

The Crown Rooftop, Hotel 50 Bowery

A Pinterest board come to life (think buttery leather couches complete with accent cushions and overhanging palms), this is the place to order a round of frosé and lobster rolls and take in the undisrupted views of the Bowery area.

The Roof, Public Hotel

Ride the Public Hotel’s much-snapped, neon-tubed escalator up to The Roof. It’s great for sunset drinks or an end of night tipple, but nabbing a seat at one of the communal tables is no small feat.

Located in the Beekman Tower, this rooftop speakeasy serves up some 20s vibes. Originally built as a residence for working women, the historical space gets a modern touch thanks to a punchy cocktail menu.

The Jane Hotel

From this West Village rooftop bar, take in views of the Hudson River with a side order of The Jane’s trademark deco surrounds. Wash down light bites from the hotel’s restaurant, Old Rose, with a Baby Jane cocktail of gin, Aperol and prosecco garnished with charred orange.

Le Bain, The Standard

The penthouse discothèque and rooftop bar on the top floor of The Standard, in the Meatpacking District, is a one-stop shop for a good time. During the summer, there’s even a plunge pool on the dance floor and a crêperie on the “grass”-covered rooftop.

Mr. Purple, Hotel Indigo Lower East Side

Rise the ranks to join the city’s cool crowd on the effortlessly chic 15th floor of Hotel Indigo Lower East Side. Toast to the night ahead with the bar’s signature Mr Purple (a mix of Casamigos tequila, cranberry liqueur, allspice dram, apple and lemon).

Gallow Green, McKittrick Hotel

Set atop the fictive hotel housing the immersive theatrical performance Sleep No More, Gallow Green is unsurprisingly a little surreal. Nab a table shrouded in lush, unkempt greenery at the weekend to make the most of its buffet-style brunch with live music.

The new kid on the block, Lemon’s is all about an elevated summer experience. In its Sicilian atmosphere, we’re opting for rounds of spritzers and basking in the summer heat (setting our phones to continuous shoot mode to capture sunset over the Manhattan skyline).

Slick and sophisticated, Westlight is as covetable for its menu as it is for its views. Order a North Fork Royale (pisco, Aperol, strawberry, lemon and sparkling rosé) at pop-up bar The Turf Club. Follow with lawn games – cornhole anyone?
