Nashville isn’t known as Music City for nothing. It’s roll-call of maverick musical residents features the likes of Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Shania Twain. It is, indeed, the birthplace of Miley Cyrus. But if stage lights and intimate gigs aren’t your scene, this southeastern state has much more to offer. From botanical gardens and historic mansions to a booming food-truck scene, SUITCASE has found all the places that hit the right notes.

TO STAY

Nashville Downtown Hostel

Among other things, Nashville is known for its pretty extortionate accommodation prices. Escape them and book into the Nashville Downtown Hostel. It combines all the fun of a hostel experience with a conveniently located, well-priced room. With both private suites and communal dorms, the Nashville Downtown Hostel offers services including open-plan community rooms, laundry, a kitchen and access to computers.

Music City Loft

Hidden behind the doors of what was in 1886 the Ambrose Printing Company building are several sleek and stylish lofts available for hire, each with hardwood floors, sky-high windows and soaring ceilings. It’s a home from home and well within walking distance of many Nashville hotspots, such as the Ryman Auditorium and the HG Hill Urban Market.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park

Jellystone Park is a camping ground just outside of the city. There’s a pool for when you need to cool off from the muggy Southern heat and easy access into downtown Nashville for when you’re ready to explore the city. You can stay in a selection of cosy cabins or do it super cheaply and bring your own tent.

The Urban Cowboy

The Urban Cowboy is set within a historic Victorian mansion in east Nashville. Each of the eight suites is equipped with a luxurious clawfoot tub and its own individual theme; choose between traditional Victorian, the regal Captain and the sultry Midnight Rider, to name but a few. With the offer of in-room spa services, a bar built into the former barn, and plenty of surrounding farm-to-table restaurants, you’d be hard-pressed to find somewhere promising greater comfort, convenience and originality.
