Déjà Vu

If you’re someone who likes to stay in one place, you’ll love Déjà Vu. Located in the heart of Arequipa’s historic centre, this bar opens early for breakfast, serves up a decent lunch and dinner, and then turns into a club when night falls. Upstairs usually plays modern electro beats while the downstairs bar pumps out a mix of classic rock and pop. There are gorgeous views over San Francisco church from the second-floor terrace, so if you like to drink with a view, head on up.

Las Quenas

For something more local, hit up Las Quenas. This quirky bar and restaurant is the perfect spot to get a taste of the more traditional Arequipan culture, and on some nights there is live Andean music and folk dancing. The food is Peruvian favourites served up by friendly waiters while the interiors are adorned with antiques and musical instruments, giving the bar a quintessentially Peruvian feel.

Forum Rock Café

This huge venue is probably the most happening spot in the city and is almost always buzzing. There’s live rock-centric music on the weekend, which attracts a large crowd of gringos and locals alike. There’s also a concert hall as well as a good café with several unique bars.

Siwara

Beer fans should head to Siwara, which has one of the best selections in the city. Just opposite the Santa Catalina monastery, this lively tavern is spread out over two pretty patios providing an ideal setting to sink a few. If pints aren’t your thing, don’t worry – the bar serves up excellent cocktails too.
