New York may be known for its hustle and bustle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a few places to reset and relax. In a city as fast-paced as this one, it’s easy to fall into a slump or neglect caring for yourself. These are our top picks for restaurants and spas that encourage wellness in Manhattan.

To Eat

The Little Beet Table

Franklin Becker’s hearty and healthy café has a seasonal and gluten-free menu in Flatiron, New York’s newest restaurant hotspot. What Becker does best is vegetables – we recommend the grilled beets, roasted squash and sweet potatoes. Like the Nomad neighbourhood it’s set in, the crowd here is varied, and at lunch you’ll find everyone from financiers to fashion designers and media executives.

Ellary's Greens

This eco-friendly organic café has hearty and healthy fare in Greenwich Village. Near local favourites like Jack’s Wife Freda and Victory Garden, Ellary’s Greens offers a peaceful space amid the bustle of the village. Highlights include the curly kale salad, the BLT and the chickpea burger. Don’t miss the juice.

Mulberry & Vine

This Tribeca spot is a favourite for young mothers and their children, who go for their vegetable platters and gluten and dairy-free pastries. Sounds like a nightmare? It’s not. Choose from a selection of incredible salads and don’t forget to order the glass noodles and carnitas pozole. The quirky interior features a two-floor seating area.

Matcha Cafe Wabi

Amid the matcha tea craze taking over New York, Matcha Café Wabi stands out for its authenticity. The tiny green store in the heart of the East Village takes this powdered green tea to a whole new level serving matcha lattes, madeleines and rice krispies, and just about everything else you could dream up with the Asian superfood ingredient.

Maman

This tiny bakery and café just above Chinatown offers a daily menu with nutritious recipes inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. Like the area it’s set in, Maman’s chic clientele is a melting pot of different cultural influences. Highlights include the candied pumpkin seed financier and the Israeli couscous with pumpkin and the croquette maman.

Sun In Bloom Tribeca

Selling “food for (happy) thoughts”, Sun in Bloom features vegan, gluten-free and raw dishes that are big on flavour on a nondescript street in Noho – don’t be deterred by the slightly scruffy interior. The macro bowl and macro salad provide enough vegetable goodness to get all your daily requirements in one meal.
