Little Truffle

New restaurants come and go on the Gold Coast at a frantic pace, but this lesser-known spot is one of the few that have lasted. You’ll understand why once you’ve dined there – while it might be on a nondescript corner out of the tourist hubs, the modern Australian fare is worth travelling for. Go all out and order the six-course degustation menu for a dinner experience you won’t forget in a hurry.

Fire Cue

One for meat lovers, Fire Cue combines modern Australian and Latin-American flavours for shared barbecue feasts. Chef and owner Adam Dundas-Taylor, left behind his award-winning Bali restaurant Barbacoa (of which he is still part owner) to open the Gold Coast venue, and you’ll be glad he did after tucking into melt-in-your-mouth smokey barbecue beef ribs with a side of juicy grilled corn.

BSKT Cafe

If you plan on spending long hours taking advantage of the beaches, you’ll want to start your day with a belly flattening breakfast, which is exactly what you’ll find at this healthy café. Gluten-free pancakes sit alongside hearty breakfast salads, with matcha lattes and kombucha to wash it down. Head back after a long sun-baking session to cool down with a Cocowhip, their infamous vegan soft-serve ice cream.

Hellenika

Hopefully you have a few friends you can take with you to Hellenika, because the best way to experience this popular Nobby’s Beach restaurant is to fill every inch of available space on the table with more-ish sharing plates. With modern takes on traditional Greek dishes, you’ll be fighting over every morsel of salty pork belly, Cypriot meatballs and moussaka, not to mention the halva ice cream for dessert.

Rick Shores

While you’ll find just about every international cuisine well-represented in Australia’s dining scene, it’s pan-Asian fare that is the star of the show – and at Rick Shores, it shines particularly brightly. Situated on the beach (nab a window table and you’ll be inches from the waves), the restaurant is a culinary adventure through the Pacific rim with an inventive cocktail menu to boot.

Justin Lane

Not your average pizzeria and pasta bar, Justin Lane is all things rolled into one: rooftop bar, social hangout, date-night spot and beachfront takeaway. Overflowing with hip locals most nights of the week, here you’ll find more carbs and cheese than your beach diet can handle, but you’ll be too busy Instagramming smoked pork-belly pizza to care.

The Fish House

Seafood restaurants are a dime a dozen up and down the entire coastline, but if you’ve only got time for one, make it The Fish House (and at least one greasy pile of chips and battered cod in brown paper on the beach). With beachside views, you’ll wine and dine on specialty fish caught that same day across the country.
