To Drink

Callooh Callay

Love cocktails? Look no further than Callooh Callay. This international award- winning bar serves up some of the most inventive cocktails in London. Its Lewis Carroll theme makes it a quirky spot full of interesting ornaments and amusing drinks names, such as Pea-ter Rabbit and Guac’ to the Future. While customers are free to walk in, bookings can be made for drinks in a separate lounge area for larger groups.

Happiness Forgets

Tucked away in a small basement in Hoxton Square, Happiness Forgets’ deep red walls and candle-lighting create an intimate atmosphere for a date or pre- drinks with friends. The sounds of jazz, pop, RnB or soul are often heard while bartenders serve up excellent drinks. Happiness Forgets specialises in spirits and cocktails so be sure to try one of their original concoctions.

Rooftop at Boundary

The Boundary Rooftop Bar is a popular alfresco retreat providing stunning panoramic views of the London skyline in the heart of Shoreditch. A weatherproof pergola means the bar and dining area is open in all weathers, while wicker chairs and heaters make it a pleasant place to have a drink from the impressive list of house- designed cocktails, beers and wines.

The Carpenter's Arms

A traditionally furnished pub where there is a regular crowd and friendly atmosphere, The Carpenter’s Arms has been a long-time local favourite. Decades ago it was run by the mum of Ronnie and Reggie Kray (the infamous east-end gangsters), but now the only sign of this is a photograph of the boys on the wall, and the welcoming new owners will make you forget about it’s sinister past. The pub has an excellent drinks list, with over 50 ales from around the world and lots of lagers or bottled options as well.

Discount Suit Company Cocktail Bar

Situated in what was originally a storeroom for the old suit company above, Discount Suit Company is a stylish cocktail bar with an intimate atmosphere. Its strong list of cocktails is popular and it draws an eclectic crowd consisting of everyone from bankers to families. Visit an ATM beforehand since the bar is cash-only.

The Book Club

Located in a former Victorian warehouse on Leonard Street, The Book Club is an East London staple. It is worth a visit for the drinks alone – cocktails with humorous names are served by the glass or in pitchers to share. With a relaxed atmosphere and relatively young crowd, The Book Club organises plenty of events including ping- pong tournaments and live performances.

Casa Negra

Mexican sea-side vibe and lively atmosphere, Casa Negra is great for large groups of friends to meet for drinks and have an earlier dance (downstairs is busy from 10pm) to an array of feel-good tunes. Behind the bar, the good-looking staff serve up an array of cocktails, including frozen margaritas, high-quality tequilas and Bloody Marys with a dash of Mexican hot sauce.

XOYO

Just moments away from Old Street station, XOYO (pronounced ‘Ex-Oh-Why-Oh’), is one of East London’s top live music clubs. Featuring a split-level interior, the club holds 800 people and is a frequent host to top-name DJs and bands. But be aware that door charges may vary depending on the event.

Concrete

Concrete is an underground space, found on the lower level of the Tea Building in the centre of Shoreditch. As its name would suggest, Concrete’s interior is simple and industrial with long tables making it a good place for drinks with larger groups of friends. Be sure to attend when Concrete’s Work It night is on to hear the best in Hip Hop and RnB.
