When the sun shines in London, there really is no better city in the world. Make the most of those precious warm days and long evenings with a spot of alfresco dining. From panoramic rooftops to sunlit squares, these are our go-to favourite outdoor restaurants in the city.

The Culpeper

Atop an unassuming pub in East London’s Aldgate is a rooftop restaurant with a difference. Offering garden-to-plate dining at its finest, you eat next to the chef’s greenhouse and among the plants and veggies that will end up in your meal.

The River Café

A classic for a reason, The River Café has been drawing diners since 1987 with it’s picturesque riverside location and unbeatable, unfussy Italian menu. A bucket-list restaurant for many, this is the perfect destination for a summertime celebration.

The Grain Store

Kings Cross’ bustling Granary Square is an ideal spot for soaking up some rays, and when looking for some accompanying grub, The Grain Store will never let you down. The creative menu isn’t vegetarian per se, but every dish has fresh seasonal vegetables as the star, rather the side.

Upgrade the experience with a delicious meal alfresco at canal side joint, The Barge House. The seasonal menu focuses on British meets French dishes that are perfect for the warm weather, and even better washed down with one of their famous cocktails. If you’re there for breakfast or brunch you can’t miss out on their signature dish, “breakfast in bread”.

Sager and Wilde

Downed a cobbled street and nestled in a railway arch in Bethnal Green, Sager and Wilde may be a little off the beaten track, but it’s well worth a visit. With outdoor seating aplenty, fresh food and an impressive wine list, it has all you want from an alfresco dining option. Plus, with long benches and a set group-sharing menu this is ideal place to gather friends for a long lunch or dinner.

Morito

Located on one of London’s loveliest streets, on a sunny evening, Morito feels like you could be somewhere on the continent. Sister of Exmouth Market institution, Moro, they serve up mouth-watering Spanish–North African tapas.

Petersham Nurseries

A true oasis of tranquillity in south west London, a trip to Petersham Nurseries feels like you’re in the country without heaving to leave the city. Enjoy locally sourced produce in the award-winning gardens or head to the teahouse for their renowned homemade cakes and pastries.

Boundary

Atop Terence Conran-designed Boundary Project in Shoreditch, is one of London’s best rooftop restaurants. While it is open all year round come summer it comes into it’s own – a real suntrap, the impressive views and Mediterranean food are equally excellent. Warning: when the temperature increases so do the queues, so remember to book ahead.

No. 32 Old Town

Perched on the edge of Clapham Common in charming Clapham old town is No. 32, a converted pub complete with ample alfresco dining thanks to outdoor tables and the lovely rooftop terrace.
