beverly-hills

West Hollywood is bold and progressive, Beverly Hills still attracts stately stars and Silver Lake and Los Feliz house the young bohemians of the city. These are the neighbourhoods to see and be seen in; the trendsetting ones where you can experience the LA buzz that everyone is always banging on about.

TO STAY

Petit Ermitage

The home away from home for the beautiful and boho. There’s often a fine line between quirky and novelty, yet despite its circus-inspired décor and flashing neon lights, Petit Ermitage sits on the right side of cool. The residence is full of surprising treats from the freshly baked lobby cookies to the candle-lit tarot card readings. Rooftop views will never rival the Griffith Observatory, while the private dining cabanas finished with faux fur throws and twinkling fairy lights make for an ambient dinner with friends.

Hotel Bel Air

Live out your Grace Kelly fantasies in the signature pink hotel at which everyone is treated like a celebrity. The iconic star famously retreated to the hotel after winning an Academy Award for best actress. Her presence certainly didn’t go unnoticed with an 85-metre-square suite named in her honour. Other suites feature their own private patios, infinity pools and art-deco fireplaces with deluxe rooms equipped with decadent Japanese toilets, iPads and spa toiletries. A popular residential retreat for the A list, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman are frequent guests. The dreamy redwood gardens and mystical Swan Lake certainly transport you back to Hollywood’s heyday.

The Jeremy

A library worth of coffee table books are artistically strewn across the lobby where a collection of mismatch leather and velvet seats are occupied by industry moguls and guests who choose to wear their sunglasses inside at this Sunset Strip hotel. The rooms are minimalist and relatively fuss free, but nearly all boast floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic downtown views. Their ground floor bar, Joao, is a subtle throwback to Old-Hollywood with its art-deco bar and tinkling live pianist who serenades effortless guests every Saturday.

Sixty

It’s unbeatable location on Rodeo Drive and a split-level poolside bar decked out with pristine white sun loungers and citrus trees has secured its place as a late-night drinking destination among the glam crowd. Everything about this Seventies-inspired hotel screams stylish, from the tortoiseshell fittings to the chocolate leather headboards; even the uniforms were designed by stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe. We’d nab one of those over a bathrobes any day.

Chateau Marmont

It’s a long-standing argument as to whether the Chateau Marmont is Los Angeles most famous hotel and, given its star-studded – albeit slightly morbid – historic credentials, you’ll certainly be immersed in a piece of Hollywood history. In addition to stories of Led Zepplin band members driving Harley Davidson’s through hallways and James Dean jumping through windows to impress directors, the castle on the hill offers cashmere blankets, dressing rooms and private pool access as standard.
