For a limited time only, Necker Island is open for individual bookings…

Huge news for the glamazon globetrotters out there: for a limited time only Sir Richard Branson is allowing individual bookings of his super-exclusive Caribbean bolthole.

Necker Island lies on the east side of the British Virgin Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. A white-sand oasis, Branson has been nurturing his retreat for over 30 years to create a “home away from home” at what is one of the most exclusive destinations in the world. Until now, unless you had 34 friends and the change to rent out the entire island (a tall order on both counts) it wasn’t even a destination: you simply couldn’t visit.

But from 12 March until 1 April, guests with cash to burn (rooms start at a cool £5253) can book individual rooms at The Lodge. Four types of accommodation are spread out across 74 hectares of palm tree groves which hum with wildlife including flamingoes, lemurs and giant tortoises.

A honeymoon haven awaits in the Balinese-style Temple House and Love Temple which share an aqua infinity pool and boast panoramic views, while families may prefer the Grand House with its master suite (complete with a private outdoor Jacuzzi) and plenty of room for little ones to bunk down nearby. A far cry from the damp camping holidays we went on as children, we must say…

Alternatively, stay in one of three houses in the centre of the island which surround a large central pool – we particularly like the look of the three-tiered house and its snug relaxation deck – though our favourite has got to be the Balinese-style villas built on a cliff, featuring a plunge pool, open-air bathroom and plenty of hammocks to lounge in. Pure, unadulterated bliss.

As for the main resort (if you can call it that), the Beach House sits between two tennis courts and boasts an extensive dining area and impressive bar, as well as a 26-foot sofa (yes, really) and games room. Go snorkelling and paddleboarding or take part in the round-island sailing race before heading to Turtle Beach for a well-deserved BBQ lunch. Another option is the floating sushi bar at the beach pool…

We like to imagine we’d then lazily make our way to the beachfront hot tub for sundowner cocktails before heading to the spa for some pampering before a candlelit dinner on the beach. Following that, we’d be ready to dance the night away at one of the island’s legendary themed parties…
