Cairo Jazz Club

One of Cairo’s ultimate live-music spots, Cairo Jazz Club appeals to most tastes. With a host of Egyptian talents taking to the stage nightly – performing everything from jazz and blues to more local sounds – it’s grab a booth early and knuckle down for a music-fuelled evening.

Pub 28

A Cairo establishment set in the middle of Zamalek, Pub 28 serves good pub grub (order the feta cheese with tomato dip or rounds of mezze) and overpriced pints. A go-to spot for lengthy chats and slow-sipped drinks.

A Peruvian-Mexican hybrid which, in typical Latin flair, serves up some seriously pisco- and tequila-heavy drinks alongside and delectable plates. We’re ordering the Peruvian quinoa salad, the shrimp tempura taco and a double portion of churros for dessert. Expect tequila and unsurprisingly, mezcal aplenty.

Pier 88

Pier 88 has a millennial appeal, with brass accents, a sea of mirrors and a long bar complete with oblong crystal lighting overhead. Float on the Nile in a lounge-like setting – come night-time this bar really heats up. Those who prefer to keep their feet on solid ground should head to Pier 88’s Pyramid Hills venue for cocktails in sophisticated surrounds. Admission is by reservation only, so be sure to book ahead.
