A boat ride on the lakes

Salzburg is surrounded by ample natural beauty. From the rolling hills to the clear waters, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the great outdoors. Just a short drive out of Salzburg, take a boat ride across the serene Lake Wolfgang against a backdrop of mountainous terrain, and see the city from a new perspective. Stop off on in the quaint little market town of St Wolfgang, which looks much like a real-life Christmas village all year round thanks to wood-panelled buildings and rustic charm. In winter, it becomes a popular ski resort.

Hike up the Kapuzinerberg Hill

Between the trees some way up the Kapuzinerberg hill you’ll find one of the most beautiful views of the Hohensalzburg Fortress. The hike along the winding path through this enchanting forest is not an easy one, but well worth it for the fairy-tale surroundings. Aside from the monastery that sits within the grounds, the space feels almost untouched making it hard to believe you’re still in the heart of the city.
