Sayulita mexico taco

NATY’S COCINA Tacos are a cornerstone of Mexican cuisine. Go local and try the dish for breakfast at Naty’s Cocina. A favourite of tourists, locals and expats alike, Naty’s is where you go to catch the wave report from surfers and take in the sights and sounds of Sayulita. This food here delicious, fast and cheap, but be sure to get there early; it closes at 2PM. We recommend the chicken mole. ADDRESS: Ave. Revolución, Sayulita, +52 329 291 3818

SUYULITA CAFE Sayulita Cafe is the home of chile rellenos, a traditional Mexican dish consisting of cheese and stuffed peppers. This small homestyle restaurant is the kind where they never forget a face and they’ll ‘make’ a table in a packed house. Another highlight here? The ‘molcajete azteca’ – a pre-Hispanic dish served in a volcanic bowl with molten cheese, sausage and cactus. ADDRESS: 37 Ave Revolución, Sayulita, +52 329 291 3758

DON PEDRO’S One of the oldest restaurants in Sayulita, Don Pedro was opened in the early 90s by two Americans who eventually settled in as expats. Using local ingredients, the menu is more international than Mexican – this is where to go when you’re craving linguine or just want a break from Mexican dishes. Though it’s one of the pricier restaurants in town, it makes for a pretty romantic night: located right on the beach, you can sip daiquiris with your significant other while watching the sunset. ADDRESS: 2 Calle Marlin, Sayulita, +52 329 291 3090

EL JAKAL Head to El Jakal for an authentic Sayulita lunch off the main drag in town. Still a relative secret (known only by locals and frequent visitors), this small hut serves up fresh fish at great prices. Staples like coconut shrimp and ceviche tostada are a must, but be sure to ask about the catch of the day –  you may get to try rare surprises like stingray ceviche. ADDRESS: Ave del Palmar Norte, Sayulita, +52 322 131 3003

GREEN GRILL One of the newer restaurants, Green Grill offers outdoor dining in the heart of the north end of Sayulita. The healthy Mexican dishes are made from the freshest ingredients. It’s also one of the few mid-price range restaurants that accepts credit cards. ADDRESS: 15 Calle Manuel Rodriguez Sanchez, Sayulita, +52 329 291 3363

ZEN GARDEN This family-run establishment is an Asian restaurant, bar and health spa (offering yoga, pilates and dance classes) all under one roof. It’s the perfect place to begin your night out and it also has beautiful views of the ocean. ADDRESS: 10 Calle Marlin, Sayulita, +52 322 135 0822
