Sincerely Tommy

The last few years have proven that New Yorkers love a good concept shop. No longer just a place for a quick transaction, retail stores across the city are transforming into spaces where you can hang out, have lunch and walk away with a truly unique piece. Sincerely Tommy is a recent favourite; the Bed Stuy boutique not only offers an impressive collection of cutting-edge contemporary designer clothing, jewellery and bags, it also features a front-of-house coffee shop, free wifi and frequently updated collection of visual art. We love the spacious lofty interior with its exposed brick wall and marble accents.

Bird

This Brooklyn-based boutique chain (there are three across Williamsburg, Park Slope and Cobble Hill) caters to the laidback hipster style of the borough. That said, you’ll still see some recognisable names here like Loeffler Randall, Levi’s and A.P.C. – alongside up-and-comers like Want Les Essentiels De La Vie, Mansur Gavriel and Creatures of Comfort. If you like to be ahead of the curve and opt for a more advanced style then you should definitely swing by one of the Bird locations. Note that the Williamsburg store also offers men’s items.

Catbird

Don’t let this teeny shop on bustling Bedford Avenue get lost in the crowd. Great for gifts (or treating yourself) Catbird sells all things girly from floral patterned stationery and solid perfumes to romantic jewellery, coy cashmere sleep masks and sexy Darner socks. They’ve become famous for their in-house line of delicate (and affordable) stackable jewellery. We love that you can also have the pieces engraved.

Beacon's Closet

Beacon’s Closet is where hipsters go to clear out their wardrobes, its the holy-grail of thrift shops. You better have stamina though, because sifting through the densely packed racks of dresses, shirts, jumpers, coats and all the rest can be a laborious task. Trust us when we tell you it’s worth it; you’ll walk away with something special from their bevvy of treasured pieces, from vintage Adidas bomber jackets to silk shirts and cheap-as-chips cashmere.

Concrete + Water

The multi-brand, unisex concept store hosts the best of Indie clothing and homeware brands including Ganni, Ilana Kohn and Nanushka. Favoured by enviously stylish Brooklynites the light and airy, industrial space regularly puts on an exciting roster of exhibitions and concerts.

Feng Sway

A self-proclaimed girl-gang of artists have taken residence in Greenpoint, bringing with them an unrivalled collection of exotic plants and unique, vintage pieces. Their rug wall of fame deserves a special mention as it features rugs gathered from India, Mexico and Frank Sinatra’s Mom’s House.
