Street-food lovers will rejoice as snacks spread on carts throughout the city go for less than a dollar a piece, while for traditional Colombian cooking, head a pavement bistro in Poblado. And if you’re looking to go gastronomic, well, this city’s got sky-high options as well.

Don’t be afraid to try some street snacks on a walk around the city. Whether it’s crispy potato empanadas with garlic aioli, fresh fruit smoothies from a car, or a cordito – a tiny shot of sweetened coffee poured from a thermos by a wandering vendor – sampling the Colombian confectionary is all part of the experience. Don’t neglect the huge variety of exotic tropical fruits either, like the passionfruit-esque granadilla and antioxidant guanabana.

Querida

There are lots of tiny restaurants to explore in Poblado, and one of the best is La Querida – meaning “the darling” en Espanol. The hipster bistro features an understated interior, long wooden tables and street-side patio. An open-air kitchen with a menu that mingles Colombian favourites with classic brunch dishes, such as chicken and waffles and arepas rellenas. Arepas, Colombia’s national sandwiches, are served in an upscale manner and stuffed with carnitas, avocado or queso fresco (fresh cheese).
