Formentera Ibiza

Ah, Ibiza. Island of all-night raves that spill into sunrise, where God is most definitely a DJ and life is a sand-covered dancefloor. Famous for its hedonistic spirit, Ibiza is flower-powered by year-round sun and a hippie magnetism that draws back visitors season after season.

There is also a more glamorous pull to Ibiza’s shores. Restaurants, beach clubs, hotels and parties are cropping up so fast on the White Isle that it’s hard to hard to keep up. Here are a few of the best from our most recent trip…

Amante

A beach club and restaurant set in a beautiful hidden cove overlooking the Sol d’en Serra Bay, Amante combines the best of Ibiza glamour with rustic island chic. Come here by day to lounge on a sunbed or indulge in a Mediterranean lunch – the grilled hake with spinach and pistachio vinaigrette is delicious. By night, candles flicker to light up the cliffs for an atmospheric evening meal. Check their website to see if you can catch one of their open-air Tuesday cinema nights under the stars, and to book their morning yoga classes which include a buffet-style breakfast for €25.

Vi Cool at Hotel Aquas de Ibiza

Sergi Arola, the two Michelin-starred Spanish celebrity chef, has combined forces with Hotel Aguas de Ibiza to offer visiting foodies the chance to dine in true Ibiza style. Vi Cool is open from May to September when it features a tapas-style menu designed to share – opt for bravas or deep-fried prawns with curry and mint. The best bit? Guests enter via a separate entrance with a lift that shoots straight up to the rooftop. V. cool indeed.

Experimental Beach Ibiza

If you haven’t seen it on Instagram already, you will. The new beachfront restaurant and cocktail bar by the ever-cool Experimental group is the opening that everyone is talking about in Ibiza (sorry Nikki Beach). Situated on the southern side of Las Salinas National Park, this beach club rests halfway between Ibiza’s hippy and hedonistic reputations – Experimental offers yoga, fresh juices and beachside BBQs but also bottle service and day parties. The restaurant is headed by chef Alex Larrea and serves up both traditional tapas and more modern seafood dishes such as Ibiza prawn carpaccio with mango vinaigrette and black cod marinated in miso with pak choi.

Passion Café

Regular Ibiza islanders will almost always mention Passion Café for a post-Pacha hangover cure. Here you’ll find one of the healthiest menus on the island made up of predominantly vegan, vegetarian and raw food for breakfast, lunch and dinner along with a selection of juices, superfood smoothies and elixirs. There are four locations on the island – in the Marina, at BFIT Ibiza Sports Club, Playa den Bossa and Santa Eulalia – but the sea view at Santa Eulalia makes it our favourite spot.

Ca Gasi

Cas Gasi is tucked away in the San Rafael valley with views across Sa Talaia. This old finca from the 1880s was once a family home and has been converted into a small countryside hotel with 10 rooms that come in all different shapes and sizes. Some rooms have beautiful Moroccan bathrooms and others exposed beam ceilings, handmade terracotta floors and the sweetest terraces to enjoy a mid-afternoon glass of wine or a cocktail. Rooms from £220 per night

Sunset Ashram

Everyone bangs on about Ibiza sunsets but what you’ve imagined is nothing compared to the real thing. Offering a 270-degree view into the beautiful Cala Conto coves, this bohemian beach bar and restaurant is the best spot to watch the light fade into the night. Feast on organic salads and curries from their Asian-inspired menu, grab one of their delicious cocktails and soak it all in.

Dalt Vila

Dating back 2,500 years, Dalt Vila provides the perfect balance of scenery and history. Enter into the walled fortress through one the hidden openings in the high stone walls, then sidle down cobbled streets, past historical churches and dramataic drawbridges to incredible panoramic views of Ibiza. But it’s not all old-school charm – check out the hoards of stylish modern Mediterranean restaurants and laid-back bars. The best of both worlds.

Formentera

Just a 40-minute ferry ride from Ibiza, Formentera is the stuff that dreams are made of. The island’s rustic charm and cool, crystal-blue waters deserve to be known the world over but thank God they are not. If you’re making a trip from Ibiza, choose one of the fish restaurants dotted along the coast of Illetas beach and settled down for the day. We love the relaxed vibe and fresh fish of the day at El Pirata.

Rumors at Beach House

The Rumours are true. The Israeli techno and progressive house DJ Guy Gerber is back at Beach House for a second Ibiza residency. This is a favourite party of anyone and everyone – perhaps because it’s free or perhaps because the party spills out onto the beach at sunset. Put on your best attempt at Ibiza chic and dance next to the DC-10 crew and old-school island hippies.

Es Vive

This hotel on the outskirts of Ibiza town looks like a mash-up between a whitewashed villa and a Wes Anderson set. Keep your sunglasses on as you walk through the gates – the white courtyard with pastel blue accents is blindingly bright. Rooms are spacious and reasonably priced, making Es Vive an ideal choice for IMS Ibiza with attendees eager to escape the more hectic Hard Rock Hotel or those wanting to stay close to Ibiza town. Don’t party so hard that you miss breakfast the next day. Rooms from £99 per night
