DCers love their whisky, and no one serves it better than Jack Rose Dining Saloon. With exactly 2,687 (the website has a live tracker) different bottles of Scotch, bourbon and rye on its shelves from DC, India, Japan, Ireland and Belgium, it’s not hard to see why this Jack’s is so popular. With five different bars, the best tables are basement speakeasy-themed Dram & Grain, where guests can complete a two-hour whisky-based cocktail tasting (and learning) session.
Hidden behind an unremarkable shabby-looking door off U Street is The Gibson, which is arguably one of the best bars in the world. A speakeasy-themed joint that looks and tastes the part, with incredibly knowledgeable bartenders and rip-roaringly good drinks. With a strict no-standing policy and no more than 50 people allowed in at a time, you’ll need to plan in advance. Once inside, don’t order off the menu – tell the bartender what you like and let him mix up something bespoke.
This rooftop bar at the top of the W is iconic for its outlandish design, killer cocktails and incredible views. Overlooking the White House and national Mall, it’s a place to see and be seen, whether that’s at brunch, lunch or dinner. It can take a while to get a seat, but it’s well worth the wait.
