Eat Street

Want to travel the world for the price of a few coins? You can at Eat Street – or at least, your tastebuds can. A foodies dream, this weekend market is set up in old shipping containers, with fairy lights, astro turf, live music and multiple bars to complete the experience. The hard part will be trying to choose just one or two dishes from the endless array of international eats (not to mention desserts) on offer.

Mt Coot-tha Lookout

The Mt Coot-tha summit walk takes about two hours and is a great way to start the day. At the summit you will be greeted with a panoramic view of the city. If you are feeling peckish drop by the Corner Store Café in Toowong on your way back to the city – you’ll recognise it by the crowd of people outside waiting for a table.

GoMa

Queensland’s Gallery of Modern Art is a dramatic building that is arguably the leading one of its kind in Australia. The exhibitions are world-class, with previous exhibits including Kathy Temin’s White Forest and 30 Years of Japanese Fashion.

South Bank

An urban playground complete with a salt water lagoon, dozens of bars and restaurants and endless green spaces in view of the city skyline, South Bank is a favourite of locals and visitors alike. To experience the best side of the parklands, however, skip the BBQs and pre-order yourself an Italian picnic from riverside restaurant Popolo, which comes complete with a blanket and ice bucket for BYO wine. Spread yourself out on the grass and enjoy city views while you tuck into your feast (on Sundays there’s even live music on the green), before taking a meandering walk all the way down to the colourful giant Brisbane letters in front of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Queensland Reds Game

Even if you are not a rugby union fan, watching the Queensland Reds play at Suncorp Stadium is a thrilling experience. After the game head to one of the bars in the surrounding area. Darling & Co is a glam spot for rosé drinking and cheese platters, but if you’re after somewhere a little bit rowdier, Lefty’s is the place to really let loose – a gentlemen’s club in its previous life, it still retains an air of illicit activities.
