Alamo Square and the Painted Ladies Alamo Square

Alamo Square is one of San Francisco’s iconic parks, located right across from the famous – and frequently photographed – Painted Ladies, a row of pastel-hued Victorian Houses along Steiner Street. On a sunny day, bring a picnic to enjoy the scene and map out your afternoon plans.

Golden Gate Park

Covering over 1000 acres and over three-miles in length, Golden Gate Park is similar in setup to New York’s Central Park, except larger. The vast space is best enjoyed by bicycle or on roller blades. Make sure to stop and smell the roses outside the Conservatory of Flowers, pop by the oldest Japanese tea garden in the US, or rent a paddleboat at Stowe Lake.

Lands End

For sweeping views of Golden Gate Bridge, hike the three-mile coastal trail that starts at the Sutro Baths and continues to Eagles’ Point. Halfway along the moderate walk, make a pit stop at the labyrinth etched into the ground and make your way through the maze.

Napa Valley

No visit to the Bay Area is complete without a stop over at Napa Valley and its endless horizon of vineyards. Just an hour’s north of downtown San Francisco, check into one of the quintessential inns and spend a few days winery-hopping and dining your way through this legendary landscape.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)

Founded in 1935, SFMOMA was the first museum on the West Coast dedicated to modern and contemporary art. A three-year building expansion by architecture firm Snøhetta has turned it into one of the city’s must-visit destinations, not least for being one of the largest museums in the US, with over 33,000 works spanning painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design and media arts.

Twin Peaks

Located slap bang in the middle of the city, The Twin Peaks are two prominent hills that, at an elevation of 282 metres, offer the best 360-degree views of San Francisco and beyond. Head there on arrival to get your bearings and soak in iconic sites including Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, Alcatraz and the downtown skyscrapers.
