DC10

With a long and illustrious past, DC-10 has rightly been crowned one of the biggest players in electronic music history. Ibiza’s most credible club is home to some of the world’s biggest DJs, who week in, week out play for crowds of adoring dance music devotees as planes soar overhead (the club situated close to the runway at Ibiza airport). The club gained notoriety in the 90s when the heady hedonism of Circoloco – its Monday party – was first launched, and to this day it draws clubbers in their droves: they come to dance in the iconic garden as the sun disappears and stay to watch as it rises again through the windows on the terrace.

Ushuaïa

Having burst onto the clubbing scene just a few years ago, this open-air behemoth in Playa d’en Bossa changed the way people party in Ibiza. Open from around 3PM until midnight (except during opening and closing parties, when hours are extended), Ushuaïa is all about alfresco frivolity – you get in there early, and you get out early. As a result, there’s a festival-style atmosphere at each party, and a similar crowd to match. That’s if you’ve not forked out thousands to be considered a VIP, in which case you’ll have discarded the plastic cup of cider in favour of a champagne bottle.

Amnesia

Once a beacon for the freedom enjoyed in Ibiza but not elsewhere in Spain, Amnesia was a regular haunt for hedonists when it opened in 1976. Back then, it was famed for its open-air terrace, 24-hour parties and mischievous shenanigans from up-for-anything clubbers, and while it’s a more conservative affair these days, its spirit still lives on in the walls. The terrace (now with a roof) remains one of the greatest dancefloors on the planet – few experiences can top watching sun rays stream through the windows at 6AM while listening to first-class techno – and regardless of the DJ you’re there to see, there’s a sense of unity among clubbers here that makes it the ultimate Ibiza experience.

Privilege

The biggest club in the world had a reputation to match its gargantuan size back in the 80s and 90s when it was known as Ku, and despite a struggle to maintain its greatness in recent years, it has come back with a big, resounding bang thanks in part to hotly anticipated gigs from the don of techno himself, Carl Cox. The main room is an enormous, cavernous space that vibrates to the tune of thousands of stomping feet, while the Vista Club is a more intimate space for watching the sunrise over the ancient walls of Dalt Vila in the distance.

Pacha

A nightclub that started out in the Spanish seaside town of Sitges in the 70s spread its wings and laid roots on the white isle before going onto become one of the world’s biggest nightlife brands. The oldest – and indisputably most glamorous – club on the island has maintained its position at the top of the pile by offering a varied musical soundscape to suit all tastes. From hot-stepping house to underground techno to unashamed EDM to the feel-good tunes of the sixties-inspired flower power, there’s something for everyone. Its location near the centre of Ibiza town also means you can rev up with a few drinks in the picturesque port before hitting the dance floor.
