To Do

The Vintage Section of Chatuchak Weekend Market

A go-to for vintage womenswear, menswear, and workwear lovers. Vendors here have a trained eye for things in trend, but prices are still very reasonable. A good haul here would include a few vintage military watches, heritage brand pieces, some French indigo workwear, or a pre-loved NBA shirt (for just about any team). You get the picture, it’s the vintage hypermarket.

Asia Herb Association

What’s a visit to Bangkok without some quality pamper time? The Asia Herb Association is busy morning to night with a huge Japanese clientele, getting their morning, midday and post-meal massages. Their aromatherapy game is A+.

RMA Institute

This is a gallery that supports all forms of goodness. This space is tucked away in upper Sukhumvit, and welcomes you with its lush courtyard adorned with dinosaur epiphytes. They are extremely active with new shows almost every month of the year. Expect a range of emerging to established artists showing ceramic, photography, illustration, and installation works. The gallery makes good use of their modestly sized space, but they have great natural light coming through the foliage that gives the building its organic feel. Better yet, one of the best breakfasts in town, Gastro 1/6, coexists in their semi-outdoor courtyard space (amongst the dinosaurs).

Scala Movie

Scala is a single-screened cinema that hasn’t changed much since it was built in 1967. Expect super-cheap tickets, popcorn and architecture that speaks of the super futuristic ‘International style’ of the Modern era. It’s a quiet gem tucked into the heart of the city.

Little India

Explore the textile scene in little India. Pahurat textile market is a wonderful spread of colour and texture that will make your eyes melt. This is where I love to hunt for exotic buttons, inspiring fabrics and novelties from the past. I can spend hours scouring through mountains of goodies here. Bag some bargain threads to make that suit or dress you always wanted.
