The World’s Coolest Homes You Can Stay In

Thu, 6 August 2015

The SUITCASE team is constantly searching for the perfect place to stay when we embark on an adventure. But in addition to beautiful hotels we also love the home-away-from-home experience. And by ‘homes’ we mean seashell houses in Mexico, treehouse getaways in Atlanta and pimp pads in LA…nothing about these buildings remotely resembles any of our homes. We give you the coolest rental properties in the world.

CUBE HOUSE, ROTTERDAM

A real-life expression of geometric proportions, this cube house in Rotterdam has us pining for a European getaway in the Dutch city. Comfy, cosy and cute, we reckon that this would make for an unforgettable stay.

SEASHELL HOUSE, ISLA MUJERES, MEXICO

Never let anyone tell you that you can’t live like Little Mermaid. If you live by the motto ‘there is no such thing as too much’ this seashell house in Isla Mujeres is for you.  Located near the beach, and complete with a private pool, we’d go to Mexico just to stay here.

ST PANCRAS CLOCK TOWER GUEST SUITE

Every Londoner knows King’s Cross Train Station. Every Harry Potter fan has at least tried to locate platform 9 and ¾ here. What you probably didn’t know is that at King’s Cross St. Pancras Hotel (located right where the station is) there’s a beautiful suite in the clock tower of the building.

SECLUDED IN-TOWN TREE HOUSE ATLANTA, GEORGIA

We’re constantly on the hunt for the perfect tree house and we think we might have found it. This secluded tree house in Atlanta is made up of three individual tree buildings, connected with wooden bridges and lit by fairy lights. Anyone having major nostalgia for childhood movies like Bridge to Terabithia and The Little Rascals (I’ve got a pickle) needs to spend a night here.

COVERED BRIDGE HOUSE, NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA

What happens when a loft merges with… a bridge? Yeah, you heard right. Located in Nevada City, California, this building combines a bridge and loft to create a very unique living space. Furnished with modern furniture, book this bridge house to enjoy warm weather, great views and an extremely cool property on your American getaway.

AKUREYRI HOUSE, ICELAND

If you’re thinking about visiting places with colder climates, head to Iceland for stunning landscapes and breathtaking views. This modern property is ideal for those who love nature, adventures and peaceful surroundings.

HIGHGATE WOODS, LONDON

Looking to escape the hustle and bustle of central London? This property in Highgate Woods might just be the solution to your city-woes. Located near Highgate Wood and with plenty of beautiful natural light streaming in, there is no better place for a calm and relaxing weekend in London.

KERHONKSON CABIN, NEW YORK

Living in Manhattan and need a weekend escape? Head upstate to Kerhonkson and stay at this polished and secluded property. Large enough for big groups or families, enjoy the private pool, serene surroundings and clean environment – a much-needed break from the noise and pollution of New York City.

MCKINLEY AVENUE, LOS ANGELES

What’s it like to live in the shoes of a Hollywood celebrity temporarily? We might never know, but we do get a firsthand glimpse with this Hollywood home on McKinley Avenue in Venice.

THE FLOATING HOUSE, HERMOSA CÓBANO BEACH, COSTA RICA

A stunning combination of modern architecture and nature, the floating house hangs above the canopy of the Costa Rican jungle. One for nature lovers, the house was designed to have as little impact on its surroundings as possible by award-winning architect Benjamin Garcia Saxe.
