Barcelona
-born Laura
Put is a DJ and actress living in Madrid.
At 17 she decided to try her hand on the decks at a local party.
From that local party she moved on to score a residency at
Barcelona superclub Razzmatazz and she hasn’t looked back
since.
Laura throws parties with music that makes you want to dance,
which for her means 80s and 90s pop: “When I’m djing I just want to
see people having fun, so I play happy songs that make you want to
sing and dance all night long – just the hits.”
She plays in both Madrid and Barcelona, at clubs and for special
fashion events (her clients have included Tommy Hillfiger, H&M,
Nike, Reebok and Pepe Jeans) and doesn’t seem to have an absolutist
attitude when it comes to comparing the cities. Despite the
notorious rivalry, she gives both cities a shining review.
“In Madrid you can go out every night. There are so many
different parties with different kinds of music. It’s very common
to go out for a beer and end up dancing at a club. In Barcelona,
the best clubs open during the weekend. But you have the best music
festivals and the latest trends. Barcelona is more European and
Madrid more castiza” (meaning very Spanish or from Madrid).
Here Laura gives us her guide to both Barcelona and Madrid
nightlife:
In Barcelona you have art parties, music
festivals, the beach, and it is more multicultural than
Madrid.
Razzmatazz: There are five clubs in one, with five different
music styles. There are concerts every night. It’s a legendary club
in Barcelona and the bests bands and DJs have played there.
The Moog: It’s a very small club next-to La Rambla with two
spaces: one with very good electronic music and the other with 80s
and 90s hits. The best thing is that it is open everyday.
Moog and Razzmatazz could be considered underground but there is
also Sidecar Club in Plaza Reial and BeGood in Poblenou.
Catwalk in Port Olimpic.
Shoko.
Sala Apolo.
Razzmatazz.
El Dirty at Razzmatazz.
Balius Bar on Carrer de Pujades 196.
Manchester Bar.
Ocaña on Plaza Reial.
In Madrid you have an event everyday. There’s a higher demand
for a party and more supply.
Siroco: it’s a small club but you have cool different sessions
going on every night.
Ocho y medio: it’s a very big club where you can find the best
pop music.
Black and White: It’s in Chueca and it’s open every night. You
can find the most underground transvestite shows.
Joy Slava on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Pachá.
Mondo.
Pirandello.
Fistroteca and Cuenca club and Trueno in Sala Sol.
Café Pavón on Calle de Embajadores 9.
Freeway on Calle Corredera Alta de San Pablo 17.
Tempo 2 on Calle San Bernardo 66.
