Five Restaurants We Love on Santorini

For fresh Mediterranean fare overlooking the Aegean, try these top tables on the Greek island.

Thanks
to villages that appear to tumble down cliffs and into
the sea and endless lounger-laden terraces, the Santorini dining
experience is hard to beat. For fresh Mediterranean fare
overlooking the
Aegean
, these are the top tables – booking ahead essential in
high season (and we don’t mean the day before, we mean before
you’re leaving home soil).

Santorini too mainstream for you? Check out these
lesser-known but just as beautiful Greek islands

restaurant

Red Bicycle

Oía, Greece

Located at the tip of the small fishing villages of Oia is Red Bicyle. The open-air terrace provides panoramas of the caldera, as well as Santorini’s whitewashed buildings and azure-domed churches. Housed in a 19th-century mansion, food is a modern take on traditional Greek fare and the menu heaves with fusions. Post-dinner, the 39 Steps bar downstairs, with its small array of outdoor tables, is ideal for an aperitif. Whether dining or drinking, this is prime viewing for those watching the sunset snapping madness unravelling below.

restaurant

Sea Side by Notos

Perissa, Greece

Park your boat at the restaurant’s private beach and disembark in time for dinner. Well not quite. Situated on Perivolos Beach, the restaurant is just few metres away from the sea, so you can dip your toes in the volcanic pebbles while enjoying your relaxing meal. Post-dinner, linger a while and take in the nightly live jazz music while your meal digests.

restaurant

Argo

Fira, Greece

Located in Fira, the capital of Santorini, Argo’s large open-air location draws a big crowd, hungry for panoramic views of the caldera. A great spot for that Instagram-worthy meal, our advice is to snag a table away from the touristy throng downstairs. With an environmentally-friendly kitchen and a menu that mixes Greek with international dishes (the Santorini fava and patatina are musts) dining at Argo leaves a seriously good taste.

restaurant

Ginger Sushi

Fira, Greece

Furrowed in the colourful village of Firostefani, is Ginger Sushi – Santorini’s first sushi lounge. Head here when you’re tired of Greek menu mainstays and want to sample fresh fish prepped another way. Opt for customised rolls if you’re fussy, though we recommend the tasting menu. With views of the blue dome church of Saint Gerasimos in your peripheral vision, Ginger Sushi wins on food, atmosphere and cocktails.

restaurant

Yalos

Fira, Greece

This sunny beach venue is located a stone’s throw from Fira. Yalos’ subtle nautical-inspired design sees boats repurposed as sofas, sails as sun shields and weathered wooden furniture dotted across the restaurant. Highlighting their commitment to a theme, interiors are awash with shades of sea green and aquamarine blue. Menu highlights include grilled peppers, ouzo-tinged pasta dishes and Greek salads with huge caper berries.
