reader and nine (yes, nine) friends to a sleek beachfront villa in

Forget resort-heavy Kuta and overcrowded Seminayak, Canggu is a
bohemian fishing village that has been a closely guarded secret
among the surf crowd since the 1970s, thanks to big wave breaks,
family-run warungs (Indonesian roadside cafés) and independent art
galleries, which today draw a creative set.
Perched on the outskirts of town, Villa Melissa has all the ingredients for a
rip-roaring group getaway. This beachfront property is the
definition of a “pad” – think five expansive bedrooms, a mammoth
T-shaped swimming pool and a tennis court. Traditional
thatched-roof lodgings offer sea views and are nestled in tropical

into town, which fills with revellers as cocktail-fuelled street
parties and beach clubs lurch into motion. Or you could stay home,
kick off your surround-sound system and go midnight skinny
dipping.
