The Carry On: April 2019

The Carry On: April 2019

The
Carry On is a monthly round-up of our favourite travel items
we’d happily haul from Stansted to Seville, Heathrow to Hydra. Be it a functional fedora or
the latest in skincare science, we’ve probably got it in our
luggage. Riffing on the adage: “If you can think it, you can be
it”, we’re saying: “If you can jam it in your carry on… you can
bring it.” Catchy.

Note: weight restrictions and other practicalities do not
apply.

MissMap

MissMap

With rising statistics on sexual harassment and violent attack
claims, an increased awareness for women’s safety is paramount.
With an aim to build safer environments, this app allows women to
review and rate their experiences in certain locations.
Contributing to a database which, over time, will help build safer
environments, rateable venues range from restaurants to salons. If you’re
travelling solo or are unfamiliar with a particular area, it’s a
particularly handy download. When venturing to a new city (or
suburb) enter your location and the type of venue you’re looking
for. MissMap will generate nearby options and highlight other
user’s ratings. Know before you go.

watercolour. Think of them as plush postcard alternative – it’s the
right level of kitsch.

Multivitamin Training Stick

Face Gym

When you’re pressed for time, multiples are a coveted commodity.
This skincare gem goes one step further and allows you to cleanse while you circuit train.
Motion-activated, Face Gym’s multivitamin training stick “works out
with you”. Choose from activated charcoal, spirulina, Brazilian
pink clay and multi-vitamin to brighten, detox, firm and hydrate.
As you exercise (and work up a sweat) the product’s motion-release
technology gets to work – the harder you workout, the deeper the
product can penetrate. To use, apply one to three strokes to your
forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and workout for at least 20 minutes
for desired effect, cleansing thoroughly post-workout.

Show Them a Good Time

Nicole Flattery

If you are always at a loss for something to do on the plane,
short stories might just be for you. Sure to finish them on your
next flight (even if it’s only a quick hop from London to Dublin),
there’s ample reward in a quick read. Speaking of, Irish native
Nicole Flattery is a writer to note next time you’re scanning the
shelves in departures. Pegged as “the next Sally Rooney”, Nicole’s
debut collection of eight short stories range in subject matter
from online dating to the abortion referendum. Exploring typified
groups from hapless university students to romantically fatigued
school teachers, these compact characterisations are injected with
wit and pathos.
