The Carry On: December 2019

The
Carry On is our monthly round-up of our favourite travel
items we’d happily haul from Stansted to Seville,
Heathrow to Hydra. Be it a functional fedora or the latest in
skincare science, we’ve probably got it in our carry on. Riffing on
the adage “if you can think it, you can be it”, we’re saying: “If
you can jam it in your carry on… you can bring it.” Catchy.

Note: weight restrictions and other practicalities do not
apply.

Eco-friendly bags, winter-proof jumpers and the latest items
we’re packing in our suitcase…

Steamery

Pilo Fabric Shaver in Burgundy

You’ve lumped your favourite cashmere swaddlings into your case
for your 2019 family ski break and as you unpack – quelle surprise
– you’ve noticed that your jumpers have started to pill (to be
honest, those baubles have probably been forming for sometime, it’s
just that you’ve only clocked it now). Enter Steamery’s Pilo, a
mini handheld razor and your sartorial saviour this winter season.
The ergonomic egg-shaped device quickly gets rid of all that’s
annoying. Plus, it’s portable, compact and rechargeable (no
batteries, just a USB charger) making it perfect for the road.

Cleanser 100ml

EVE LOM

One of the first balm cleansers on the market – and now one of
the most revered skincare products to grace any beauty hall worth
its (epsom) salt – EVE LOM’s Cleanser is a hero product like no
other. Removing all traces of make-up, pollution and daily dirt
while exfoliating and toning, this cleanser is frankly faultless –
oh and it’s designed for all skin types. See, faultless. The
eucalyptus (which combats blemishes) oil has a calming effect on
both skin and mind, while the accompanying muslin cloth aids
exfoliation. Added value: the decadently large pot happens to look
oh-so-good in hotel bathroom snaps.

Reusable silicone bags

Stasher

Unremarkable brown paper bags and problematic cling film or
aluminium foil are tres passé where to-go lunches are concerned.
We’ve converted to Stasher bags, which are reusable, non-toxic and
endlessly useful. They’re a must-purchase for those attempting to
ditch single-use plastics, and we can confirm that these air-tight
pouches are great for carting leftovers back home from your
friend/parent/significant other’s house. Made from food-grade
silicone, they’re durable enough to be used in the dishwasher or
microwave. Stacker’s smaller offerings – snack bags and the pocket
– also double as stowaways for tech cords and other tiny
treasures.

Printed cotton-voile pareo

DODO BAR OR + Annabel’s

While many are gearing up to hit the slopes, some of us are more
inclined to tropical pursuits. For such temperatures, a wardrobe
less festive and less spangled is required. DODO BAR OR + Annabel’s
printed cotton-voile pareo is just the ticket. A kind of sarong,
the pareo, originating in Polynesia, is made of a single straight
piece of printed cotton cloth. Wrap around your waist on lazy days
spent lounging by the pool or pair it with a boxy, utilitarian
shirt for dinner later that evening; this sartorial item is peak
packing prowess.

Ritual Aromatherapy Eye-Pillow

Bodha

Dispel long-haul flight cabin gloom by smoothing this lightly
weighted aromatherapy pillow over your eyes. Made of super-soft
Mongolian cashmere – the perfect cosy companion for all your
adventures – Bodha’s aromatherapy eye pillow is filled with a blend
of lavender, chamomile and organic buckwheat. Great for getting
through a flight stress-free or as an aromatherapy treatment once
you’ve reached your destination, the eye pillow also works to
enhance meditation. Side note: with this, power napping (you know
how to stave off jet lag) has truly never been easier.

Dry Shampoo

Klorane

Hair in need of a little spiffing up? A spritz of Klorane’s
ultra-gentle dry shampoo is any constantly moving woman’s first
defence when maintaining a blow dry for the duration of work trip
or romantic weekend away. If your Romeo (or Juliet) is particularly
spontaneous (or your work trips tend to come with very little
notice), and you haven’t had the time to do a full wash and blow
out pre sojourn, this product really does the trick. It doubles as
a great styling product, so spray it into your roots for added
texture and volume.

Heattech fleece turtleneck long sleeved t-shirt

UNIQLO

Base layers are essential. Think of getting dressed for a day of
skiing and apply that tog value to your daily getup for the
foreseeable. Heattech products are, in our humble opinion, heaven
sent and frankly entirely necessary to survive the worst of winter.
We’re devotees of Uniqlo’s Heattech line – which proves that thin
fabric can keep in a whole lot of warmth. Sneak one of the
long-sleeved polo necks under a wrap jacket for a chic pop of
colour – the raspberry ripple iteration is scrumptious.

Blue-light Blocking Screen Protector

Eye Just

We’re all guilty of locking eyes with our screens for hours on
end (even more so when we’re restricted to a flight cabin or train
carriage). With a laundry list of potentially harmful effects –
including fatigue, brain fog and free-radical damage – the eerie
haze from our tech devices is more than a little worrisome. A
blue-light screen shield for your phone is a good place to start
countering that negativity, with Eye Just’s technical four-layer
screen protector proving to be our favourite on the market. It puts
a barrier between the blue light and your eyes while protecting
your screen from scratching thanks to the smudge-resistant tempered
glass.
