The Carry On: May 2020

The Carry On: May 2020

The
Carry On is our monthly round-up of our favourite travel
items we’d happily haul from Stansted to Seville,
Heathrow to Hydra. Be it a functional fedora or the latest in
skincare science, we’ve probably got it in our carry on. Riffing on
the adage “if you can think it, you can be it”, we’re saying: “If
you can jam it in your carry on… you can bring it.” Catchy.

Note: weight restrictions and other practicalities do not
apply.

Cool comfort wear and the self-care staples we love at home and
away

Dressing Gown Yellow Gingham & Red Piping

Alex Eagle

The classic, towelled hotel robe has its place; it’s a useful
garment to shrug on when you’re changing from one set of clothes to
another. In lieu of a need to change outfits – while attempting to
elevate our duvet-day dressing – we’re turning our attention
towards more tailored dressing gowns, like this one by Alex Eagle.
Sunshine-yellow gingham and contrasting red piping, a loose fit and
long sleeve make for a comfortable, but chic wardrobe addition. As
acceptable to be seen in at the breakfast table as it would be
poolside in
Milos
or flâneuring about
Arles
paired with a white tank and denim, it’s an injection of
happy whatever your surrounds.

RENDANG by Will Harris

Granta

Offering brief moments of escape and reflection, a book of poems
is a wonderful thing to keep at hand both at home and away. Born
and based in London,
Will Harris’ new poetry collection RENDANG draws on the young
writer’s Anglo-Indonesian heritage and explores new ways to think
about the contradictions of identity and cultural memory. Taking
the reader on a progressive poetic journey from West Sumatra to
Planet Mongo via Gray’s Inn Road, RENDANG focuses on
self-perception and what it means to be a person now.

Stack Radio App

Stack Radio

Stack Radio took two years to compile its catalogue of elusive
tracks, ranging from Afrobeat to classical, disco to punk before
launching its playlists internationally. With no adverts (or
interruptions) and no hosts, Stack is strictly all about the music.
Choose a pace to match your mood (fast, medium or slow) or plug in
to almost 30 genres and let the music play. Your first month is
free, meaning you’ve time to test its limits (after that, a monthly
subscription will cost £2.49). The best bit: Stack’s guest mixtapes
– hand-selected by DJs, film directors, artists and music lovers –
which highlight back-in-the-day classics and essential new
cuts.

Youthmud® Glow Stimulating Treatment

GLAMGLOW

Have a spare 10 minutes? Apply a generous dollop of this
marvellous goop to your visage and watch as you Benjamin Button
(well, almost). The wunderkind of Hollywood make-up artists
(Burbankites swear by it), this clay mask treatment is quite the
multitasker. It exfoliates with volcanic pumice rock to help smooth
fine lines and softens skin’s texture, while natural clays lift
impurities without removing skin’s essential oils. The end result:
a softer, smoother, more glowy you.

Screen Glasses

Ace & Tate

If there was ever an excuse to wear glasses as a statement
without a prescription, it’s now. Our screen time is off the charts
thanks to countless hours spent staring into the digital abyss,
leading to tired eyes caused by excess exposure to blue light. Ace
& Tate’s Screen Glasses are non-prescription frames fitted with
blue-light filtering lenses to block misbehaving rays. Cool and
effortlessly stylish is Ace & Tates modus operandi, and these
frames follow suit. Whether you fancy a novel metal octagon frame
or a semi-translucent acetate spectacle, you can avail of the
virtual try-on service before committing.

Sana Jardin Discovery Set Box

SUITCASE Loves

Having a spate of socially conscious fragrances to hand will put
you in a spritely mood. A neat shortcut for those looking to build
up something of a scent wardrobe, Sana Jardin’s Discovery Set’s 2ml
vials are particularly travel friendly. We’re advocates of getting
acquainted with all eight of Sana Jardin’s signature blends,
including Berber Blonde and Savage Jasmine, before committing to a
singular sensory statement. As anyone who has held the moniker of
“island hopper” can attest, flitting from one delicious thing to
the next all summer long is devilishly good fun.
