Inhotim Art Park, Minas Gerais Brazil
If you’re heading to Brazil for the Rio
Olympics but want something more than sport or a beach, then
Inhotim is the place for you. Located fairly close to Belo
Horizonte, the 5000-acre tropical garden features 500 pieces of
stunning artwork. Unlike a traditional gallery, they’re are set
among lush vegetation and many of the works are interactive.
The weather in Belo Horizonte is generally pretty dry and warm,
although avoiding the summer months (Dec-Feb) is probably a good
idea because they tend to be rainy. Try to visit during the week to
escape the crowds – apart from Wednesdays when it’s free.
An art enthusiast. Although you could also have a great time
solo.
Some tropical animals and 1400 different species of palm
tree…
With so many amazing artworks it’s hard to choose but Olafur
Eliasson extremely contemporary Sonic Pavilion is a sensory
experience not to be missed.
Tickets, which you must get in advance! Comfortable walking
shoes and bug repellent.
Inhotim is about a 90-minute drive from Belo Horizonte, you can
rent a car or take a taxi. You can also jump on a bus from Belo Horizonte bus station. See the timetable
here.
