These photos were taken in Sarajevo, the capital of the Balkan country of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which I visited for a long weekend in February.
The city is an intriguing mix of old meets new and reminded me of a smaller, more serene version of my hometown of Istanbul - unsurprising given that Bosnia was once under Ottoman rule. Amid winding cobbled streets you'll find vendors selling trinkets and cevapi (pronounced che-vah-pee), a succulent grilled meat dish served with a side of onions and soft bread. The city feels gentle, calm.
Bisected by the Miljacka river, Sarajevo has nature right on its doorstep. Explore the old town with its many museums, churches, pastry shops and beer halls before heading to the hills to drink it all in from a distance.
