Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece’s Insider Guide to Copenhagen

Fashion royalty Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece takes a
break from the catwalk to let us in on the
Copenhagen
‘s best hangouts and the secrets to
Scandi style
.

Known for her sophisticated style and modern grace, Princess
Maria-Olympia of Greece has converted her regal reputation into one
of fashion royalty. Often seen front row at most fashion weeks
alongside the likes of Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Talita Von
Fürstenberg and Derek Blasberg, the princess has proven her birth
status to be simply a supplement to her keen eye and exquisite
taste.

On a break from walking down runways and celebrating graduating
from university, the princess lets us in on the best spots in her
favourite city – Copenhagen. From the palatial hotels to boutiques
hidden down cobbled streets, these are the places where the Greek
princess spends time in the Danish capital.

The best time to plan a trip to Copenhagen is…

Copenhagen in August
is so much fun. The weather is incredible – you can sit outside
cafés by the canal, have a drink and get some sun. It’s the
best.

The best hotel to wake up in…

I love Nimb Hotel. It looks like a palace
from the outside and has a strange fairy-tale vibe, but inside is
very Scandi.

What’s the best way to explore the city?

By bike! It’s crazy; there seems to be more people riding bikes
than driving.

What is the city’s dress code?

Copenhagen is super trendy and very comfortable. You’ll see a
lot of girly dresses paired with a chunky trainer. Honestly, no one
is afraid to experiment with a new look. I get so much inspiration
every time I visit.

The best spots for shopping…

Copenhagen offers a huge number of stores and boutiques that you
can’t find just anywhere. Wander down the side streets of
Copenhagen to find little gems hidden around corners. They’re all
very easy to get to by foot – Elemegade is a great street on which
to shop at cute boutiques before stopping by great bars and cafés.
My favourite shops are Holly Golightly, Storm
and Lot#29. Illum is the oldest department store in the
city and is great for browsing, while Carmen and Paloma are both great for vintage
shopping.

Favourite Danish designers?

Saks Potts is my favourite Danish brand. The designers
Barbara Potts and Catherine Saks are just so talented and I
absolutely adore them. Its style is so fun and exciting – it
probably has the best winter coats out there, perfect for when it’s
chilly. I also love Ganni; I’ve bought such great pieces
in its Copenhagen stores.

Where’s good for lunch?

My absolute favourite place to go for breakfast or lunch is the
TorvehallerneKBH Market. It has absolutely everything
you’d want: great coffee stands, incredible Danish pastries and the
best tacos I’ve ever had.

And for dinner?

If you’re in the mood for the best burger of your life, I’d
highly recommend Gasoline Grill. It’s in the center
of Copenhagen on an old, retro-looking gas station.

Other food spots to try?

A great place to sit outside and have an Aperol spritz or a
bloody mary is Fishmarket – expect delicious food, a great
location and an amazing vibe.

Where should we go for an evening tipple?

Another favourite spot of mine is Apollo Bar & Kantine; you
can sit outside in the courtyard when the weather is nice – the
atmosphere is great because it shares the courtyard with the
Charlottenborg Art Gallery. During the week
it’s mostly a bar with wine, beer, bar snacks and small dishes.
Between Thursday and Sunday however, it’s turns into more of a
restaurant serving dishes made of simple ingredients with
unexpected twists.

Best art galleries and museums in the city?

If you go to the Apollo Bar & Kantine, pop into the
Charlottenborg Art Gallery, or try the Glyptoteket museum which has a beautiful winter
garden. You can’t leave Copenhagen without visiting the Louisiana
Museum of Modern Art
– it’s located on the shore and it is
beautiful inside and out. It’s so lovely just to wander around the
property and explore.

And finally, what’s in your SUITCASE?

Hot or cold, I can never leave without my combat boots, Levi 501
jeans and my Beverly Hills pink pyjama set.
