journey through Tibet gives you a strong sense of the
unattainable, not only for the challenging altitudes its land
reaches, but also the boundaries raised continually under the
Chinese occupation. What also feels unattainable is the Tibetan
culture, buried under the vast activities of Western and Chinese
tourism and disfigured by Chinese modernisation. Monks still living
in the precious heritage of buddhist monasteries are becoming
temporary ticket sellers while listening to Buddhist prayers on
their iPhones, and it seems that what Tibet is today will not be
what it is tomorrow.
