The Shore Hotel, Santa Monica

The Shore Hotel, Santa Monica

Almost
straddling the iconic Santa
Monica
Pier, this contemporary hotel couldn’t be better located
for a long weekend spent soaking up LA’s laid-back beach lifestyle.
Epitomising Cali credentials, it’s eco-conscious with
sustainability at its core, while oceanfront rooms and a cool
colour palette are an ode to clean coastal living. This is eclipsed
by uninterrupted views of the Pacific, with balconies offering one
of the most dramatic sunsets we’ve ever seen. A violet sky streaked
with gold and silhouetted by black palms taught us why everyone
goes on about the
LA light
– and had us shouting “it’s LIT” at every
opportunity.

Rooms

Bright and spacious sea-facing rooms surround an enticing
ground-floor pool. Inside, aqua tones and orange accents
sand-coloured wood, bringing the outside in, which you can also do
by opening your retractable glass doors. Sleek, white bathrooms
feel fresh and the beds are notably comfortable.

What’s for breakfast?

All the usual suspects are supplemented by a plethora of
different juices – this is LA after all. Take it al-fresco by the
pool and watch Santa Monica shake off its slumber.

How about lunch and dinner?

They don’t have a restaurant, but there are plenty of dining
options within walking distance. Head to boho darling Flower Child for a healthy breakfast
or lunch, while for dinner it’s got to be The
Misfit
, a hip farm-to-table restaurant offering innovative
plates and craft cocktails close to the beach.

Is there a bar?

Yes, poolside. It’s particularly atmospheric at night when the
pool is lit up and surrounded by flares.

Amenities

Fitness centre, business centre, pool, valet parking, free
WiFi.

Things I should know

Every aspect of the hotel is environmentally friendly, using
recyclable materials and solar power as far as possible.

Within a short walk I can find…

It really couldn’t be better located whether you want the beach
or a shopping mall. Rent a bike and cycle along the seafront to
Venice Beach (about 2.5 miles) – if you’re feeling punchy, get
involved with a trapeze class at Muscle Beach.
